About us

Here at The Music Rooms - Selby we provide bespoke music tuition to suit all ages and levels. 

​

We have a team of teachers who are here to help you improve technique, learn your favourite songs, work towards instrument grades and have fun whilst learning. â€‹

 

Our lessons are available in a 1-1 setting, meaning you have the teachers full attention for the duration of your lesson.

​

We have lesson availability in a range of instruments from Guitar, Vocals, Piano, Drums and many more!

Our Space

We have 4 teaching rooms. Including a drum room with two drum kits and a PA system so you can make as much noise as you like!

 

We have a small shop that stocks gifts, sheet and instrument accessories.

 

We also have a waiting room/kitchen area where you can help yourself to a tea or coffee whilst you wait and enjoy our complimentary free WiFi.

Meet Our Team

The teachers at The Music Rooms - Selby are very passionate about teaching and helping students fulfil their potential. 

 

All our teachers are DBS checked. 

Kerry White
owner/guitar & piano teacher

Kerry began playing the guitar at age 9 with lessons in primary school. Since then she has gone on to study music at both college and university. 

​

She has been lucky enough to perform at many venues in Leeds and Hull both in a band and as a solo artist.

​

Kerry has been teaching Guitar since 2018 and in 2020 joined The Music Rooms team. In November 2022 Kerry became the new owner of The Music Rooms and has since then created a well-supported community of teachers and students who attend lessons on a weekly basis.

Billy Burls
drum teacher

Billy has been drumming since the age of 6, with his musical journey beginning with a deep love for rock music.

​

He pursued formal education at Leeds Conservatoire and delved into various aspects of drums and percussion. Specialising in Congas.

​

Billy has played in many bands and is currently a member of the reggae band State of Satta who have played at many venues and fesitvals across the UK.

​

Grace Lancaster
Piano, Vocals, Saxophone & Clarinet teacher

Grace has trained as an Actor Musician at Rose Budford and has worked in some of the UK's best theatres.

​

She has performed in shows such as Footloose and Assassins both in the UK and internationally.

​

Grace has previously won an award for Best Leading Female at the Great British Pantomime Awards for her role in Beauty and the Beast.

​

She is also a memeber of The New York Brass Band who have performed at Pixie Lott's Wedding, Glastonbury and have also made an appearance on TV for The Last Leg!

Lewis Buchan
Piano teacher

Lewis was initiated into music at the age of 8. After spending 5 years in the junior department at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, he pursued classical piano.

​

With a deep foundation in music theory, Lewis' repertoire spans from classical to rock and pop. 

Lewis has extensively taught students ages 4-75. 

 

Earlier in his career he was a musical director for choirs and performances such as weddings. 

 

Lewis has performed as a soloist at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall and more recently ventured into the cruise sector as a musical director overseeing guests acts such as X-Foactor winners and band performances.

Rebecca Shelbourn
Cello & violin teacher

Music has been a part of Rebecca's life for as long as she can remember. 

​

Over the years she has had the opportunity to play Cello in orchestras, string quartets and ensembles. 

​

After completing musical theatre training in London, she began her teaching career in the south before moving to North Yorkshire over 5 years ago.

Sam Jones
Drum teacher

Sam is a drum teacher with a passion for bringing out the best in new and upcoming drummers.

​

He has been playing drums for over 17 years and has a wealth of experience gigging professionally for over a decade.

​

Sam can teach a wide spread of genres including Rock, Pop, Funk and more diverse genres such as Jazz.

​

He is currently studying at Leeds Conservatoire, specialising in drums so expect a professional and sophisticated approach. As well as fun personalised lessons to cater to each student

Amy McLellan
Piano, vocals & flute teacher

Learning the Piano and Flute at a young age, Amy performed at every opportunity, in bands, choirs, dance recitals and school productions. 

​

Performing at Barnsley Music and Drama festival on both Flute and Piano led to Amy gaining a place on the Actor Musicianship course at London College of Music. 

​

Amy has performed in musicals, new writing and theatre for young audiences. This includes many shows such as Pippin, Legally Blonde and Merrily We Roll Along.

Brendan Donegan
Guitar & bass teacher

Brendan is a guitarist from London and a recent graduate of Leeds Conservatoire. 

​

He has been obsessed with the guitar since the age of 6 after hearing "Johnny B.Goode".

​

Brendan is a full-time musician doing all sorts of working from teaching, to recording and playing gigs. 

​

A current big project of Brendans is being the musical director for pop-artist Holly Rofe based in Leeds.

​

Brendan has played in many venues across the country with some of his favourites being Piece Hall in Halifax and The Royal Albert Hall in London.

Simon Minay
piano teacher

Simon graduated from Leeds College of Music in 2001 with a Bachelor of Performing Arts in Music and Composition. 

​

He has taught piano privately since 2004.

​

Simon also regulary composes his own music and has sung in several choirs over the years including Selby Abbey and, as a child, York Minster.

James Stradling
guitar teacher

James has been playing guitar for 40 years, playing both solo and in a range of bands. 

​

He writes and publishes material with his brother and has played professionally for Everybody's Talking About Jamie and Footloose ant Weymouth Pavaillion.

​

James is a post grade 8 guitarist and is currently working towards his diploma with ABRSM. 

​
